Downey installation (RIP)

One of my all-time favorite pieces was destroyed this fall. I only had to go a block or two out of my way to pass by this spot (Grand & Lexington in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn) everyday on my walk home from the G train. Along with the Toyshop mural on St. James & Gates, this was the neighborhood’s best:

Then, one day this fall it was gone. The panels themselves must have been ripped out, as the metal tracks holding them to the wall are still there:

Gone

I still walk by the spot when I take the G train. The building is still abandoned and by all indications rat-infested, but these pieces (obviously the real drains on local property values) are gone. Expect more of this shit as Bloomberg’s re-election campaign gears up.
